The Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park (Parque Nacional Arrecifes de Cozumel) is a federally protected, world-renowned nature reserve. To help maintain and protect this delicate ecosystem, the Mexican government mandates a daily entry fee for every single person who enters the water.
This is not a hidden tour charge – it is a strict federal requirement.
Where Does the Money Go?
The funds collected from this fee go directly to CONANP (Mexico’s National Commission of Protected Natural Areas). Your contribution pays for vital conservation efforts, including:
- Reef Monitoring: Tracking coral health and wildlife populations.
- Mooring Lines: Maintaining permanent buoys that boats tie off to, which ensures anchors are never dropped on fragile coral.
- Marine Patrols: Funding the park rangers who enforce eco-rules and combat illegal fishing.
How to Pay
The federal marine park fee is typically a few US dollars per person (as of June 2026, currently $225 MXN or about $13 USD).
Because this money must be passed directly to the park authority, it is generally not included in your base ticket price. We kindly ask that you bring this small amount in cash (USD or Mexican Pesos are both perfectly fine!), or a valid payment card, to pay the fee at the marina during check-in.
Once paid, you will receive your official Marine Park wristband for the day.
